Our work in Cape Town, SA
This summer, while schools in California and Hawaii were out of session, we began working in Cape Town, South Africa. Though we had an understanding of South Africa, we did not know what type of reaction to expect from schools and the community. How would we be received by students across the world?
A roar filled the air, as one assembly after another finished, the cheers from the students created an almost tangible feeling of change. We were met with complete enthusiasm. We had positive results at our presentations and assemblies, and requests to return. The desire for our work was far beyond our expectations.
After two weeks, and working with nearly 4,000 students in 12 schools, it was time to return to California. We realized that we could not leave without continuing our work in Cape Town. We began looking for a local team, to carry on.
We found our team. On September 6th, we sat down with Craig Bovim and J.P. Andrew, two shark attack survivors, with very similar stories of survival and accomplishment to that of our Executive Director, Jonathan. It became clear immediately that they were overwhelmingly excited about our work, and willing to join our team. Craig and J.P. have become our presentation team in Cape Town, and along with the business experience of Tony Williamson, they are Future Leaders For Peace - South Africa! |

Feedback from the schools
We were very happy to have such a positive response to our work at schools in Cape Town!
A really effective and inspirational presentational challenge to adolescents. It held their interest and because Jonathan is young and spoke from personal experience, the kids were open to his message and very responsive. It was an extremely valuable exercise and one which I’m confident will have an impact on their behavior. Thanks!
Mr. Simon Winter Principal - Plumstead High School
A fantastic presentation made more meaningful by referring to his personal life journey. Examples were relevant. Jonathan has a wonderful rapport with adolescents and they were enthralled and interested for 45 minutes—not an easy task! Girls I spoke to immediately after the presentation said that the talk had changed their thinking. A couple mentioned having felt angry all week and that they had been challenged to approach life more positively. Most could remember the slogans and were going to create posters to put in their tutpr groups to keep the vibe alive.
Thank you for your time, Jonathan, and to your sponsors for allowing our children to be inspired. I know that there will be long-term benefits for our girls.
Mrs. Shirley Harding Principal Wynberg Girls’ High School
Absolutely fascinating presentation that learners could very easily relate to. My preliminary feedback from some of the learners was very positive and encouraging. The need is there! The desire is there! And, the facilitator of Jonathan’s caliber is the cherry on the top!

Boys identified with Jonathan - both in his youth & enthusiasm. The principles communicated came across clearly and were presented in a way for them to understand and apply immediately.

Thank you for a very real, inspiring story. You have touched many hearts with your own testimony and have challenged us to revisit our attitudes. Go with love and smiles from the Immaculata family.
