Richard C. Hunter

Chairman of the Board & Co-Founder

Richard co-founded Future Leaders For Peace in January 2005.

He had a long career at DFS Group Limited (Duty Free Shoppers) where he held senior group and operating management (EVP and President) positions.  He also did retail strategy consulting for companies such as The Body Shop plc and Williams-Sonoma, Inc.  He recently served on the advisory board of The Body Shop (USA) and the advisory board of Pomare Ltd., dba Hilo Hattie.

 

Jonathan R. Kathrein

Executive Director, President & Co-Founder

Jonathan is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley, and studied business and politics.  He co-founded Future Leaders For Peace in January 2005.

He is an expert in leadership and peace-building, and is a skilled inspirational speaker.  In 2007, Jonathan won the Jefferson Award for Public Service.  He has captivated school groups with his story across the United States, England, and South Africa.

He has been featured in Sports Illustrated magazine, the New York Times, the San Francisco Chronicle, People of The Year ’98 (Germany), the National Geographic Channel, the Discovery Channel, and Dateline NBC.

 

Lyman Casey

Board Member

Lyman joined Future Leaders For Peace as an advisor in early 2007 and formally joined the Board in early 2008.

Born and raised in San Francisco, Lyman spent 10 years in the business of Hospital Administration, and has dedicated the rest of his career to the non-profit world.  For the past 25 years he has administered private Foundations for individuals and families in the Bay Area.  In 1988 he founded Pacific Foundation Services, a unique and full service business whose purpose is to set up and manage Foundations.  While PFS has been turned over to the next generation, he remains actively involved in the Company.

Over the years Lyman has served on a number of not-for-profit boards, a few of which include: The Merola Opera Program, The San Francisco Hearing & Speech Center, The Cate School, St. Francis Memorial Hospital, and The California Academy of Sciences.  Currently he serves on the Board of the San Francisco General Hospital Foundation.

 

Lauri Shanahan

Board Member

Lauri joined the Board of Future Leaders For Peace in early 2008.

She is the former EVP, Chief Legal and Administrative Officer and Corporate Secretary of Gap Inc., one of the world’s largest specialty retailers operating under the Gap, Old Navy, Banana Republic, and Piperlime brands.  In her role as Chief Legal and Administrative Officer, Lauri was responsible for the management and oversight of a number of company-wide functions including Corporate Social Responsibility, Foundation, Real Estate, Legal, Loss Prevention, Corporate Governance, and Government Affairs and Public Policy.  Lauri also served on the Executive Leadership Team.

Through her career, Lauri has been active on a number of non-profit boards, including the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights, the Senior Advisory Board of the University of California’s Haas School of Business’ Center for Responsible Business, and as President of Gap Inc.’s Foundation Board of Directors.

Future Leaders For Peace teaches young people positive leadership and interpersonal skills, and creates a movement of change by inspiring them to share these skills with others.
